lisbon

Simon's Mom offered to watch the kids for us while she was visiting.  We thought about taking a trip to Lisbon for a couple of days, but Simon had to work.  I thought that was the end of it, but apparently Simon somehow figured out a way to make it work without telling me.  The night before the trip he told me, although he had planned on telling me the morning of.  He had worked it out with his Mom.  They were sneaky and spoke Spanish while I was in the kitchen.  This is the very first time that Simon and I have been away alone since we have had children.  I have to admit, I teared up a little when we left, but I knew that they were in very good hands.  They loved spending time with Grandma and she loved spending time with the kids, but I think they wore her out a little bit.  The kids didn't really even seem to miss us.

This to me is Lisbon.  It really is a town that is a feeling.

So of course we had to go to a soccer game.  It just so happens that there were two soccer games while we were in Lisbon.  Here we are at Benfica.

A lot of the buildings in Lisbon are covered in tiles like this one.

We went to an art museum.  It was wonderful because we actually got to wander around and take as long as we wanted to read descriptions.  It had a few interesting exhibits in addition to their modern art collections.  They had one on WWII propaganda.  It was very interesting, most of the of the propaganda came from the US and Germany (very helpful that we can read German now).  The middle picture made us laugh pretty hard.

These lovely little pastries are called Pastel de Belem.  This little bakery has been making these since 1837 and no matter the time of day you have to stand in line to get one.  They are delicious!

Here we are at Sporting Lisbon.  We cheered on the American Onyewu.

Our last night we wandered around the city and climbed up one of the hills for this view of the city.
Thanks honey for a wonderful little get away!

We found out last past week that we are expecting .... a baby boy! We are super excited! I had a feeling ever since we found out that I was pregnant that would be having a boy. Auburn came to the ultrasound with us and repeatedly said "baby" while we looked at the screen. We are excited for her to have a little brother. We just need to start thinking of baby boy names ....

Ich bin schwanger

Translation: I am pregnant! We are so excited to be parents again. I have been blessed to feel pretty good through the first trimester. The offical due date for our little one is May 12th. It is the day before our 4th anniversary. We don't really think that Auburn understands what is going on. When we say baby, she gets her baby doll. Although she does point to the ultrasound pictures and says baby, which I think is super sweet!
